Abstract:

Microblogs have become an important source of information for the purpose
of marketing, intelligence, and reputation management.  Streams of
microblogs are of great value because of their direct and real-time nature.
Understanding what's happening is not always obvious. Trying to determine
patterns so as to inform future behavior is sometimes highly non-trivial.

In the talk I wil present recent and ongoing work on semantic aspects of
Twitter, including semantic linking, tracking election issues, predicting
movie ratings, identifying aspects, and mining the future through the
plans that people share online.

The talk is based on joint work with Matthias Breuss, Edgar Meij, Bhui Minh,
Andrei Oghina, Ork de Rooij, Damiano Spina, Manos Tsagkias, Wouter
Weerkamp.
