Brief description: Multi-agent systems are one of the most exciting research areas in Artificial Intelligence. In the last ten years there has been a growing interest in the application of agent-based systems in health care. Current topics of research include communication and co-operation between distributed intelligent agents to manage patient care, agents embedded in assistive devices, information agents that retrieve medical information from the Internet, and multi-agent systems that assist the doctors in the tasks of monitoring and diagnosis. The seminar will provide an introduction to this field, focusing on the presentation of specific agent-based systems.
Syllabus: Basic properties of intelligent agents. Characteristics of the problems in health care. Appropriateness of the use of agent technology in health care. Review of the general areas of application of agents in health care. Detailed description of deployed applications of intelligent agents in health care applications.
Evaluation: the students enrolled in the Master will have two weeks after the seminar to prepare a short individual written report on a question related to the content of the seminar
